Solar Roadways is a new concept in renewable energy from US couple Scott and Julie
Brushaw. Scott (an Electrical Engineer) and Julie came up with the idea to replace U.S.
roadway asphalt with solar panels that could potentially produce three times more
electricity than the country currently consumes.
The couple have just reached a milestone in their quest by managing to secure $1.4 million
in crowd-funding to employ a team of engineers to drive the project forward, which if
successful could also see the additions of LED’s and touch sensors, illuminated road
markings and even electrified roads which could mean the arrival of self-driving cars.
The Brunshaw’s are still a long way off their overall target of $56 trillion but it’s a
good start.
