“Galactic Frontiers” Ice Bar, London

Ice Bar

Following on from previous work with Ice Hotel and the Ice Bar London, this design collaboration was between Ben Rousseau and Ice Hotel founding architect, Ake Larsson. Titled “Galactic Frontiers” it used intelligent digital RGB lighting design and precision CNC ice cutting.

A team of skilled artists hand finished the sculptures, with a bar setting portraying a series of views from the earth looking out into Space and beyond. The space was made from 43 tons of ice from the River Torne in arctic Sweden.

Industrial pendants were re-wired with E27 fittings and large LED squirrel globe bulbs with sand blasted glass shades. Pendants were segmented into 3 zones so room can be illuminated and controlled so different functions can be pre set to work for the different uses the customer required. The space is used as a Pop-up restaurant for private dining experiences and also as a personal home for the owners.

Up/down LED wall lights were positioned to add interest on the wall below the cooler white LED strip lighting giving a halo effect on the timber joists running close to each wall. As the warmth from the brick and timber structures needed showing off we used different temperature lighting to add dimension and detail. Control is all via Rako digital per set wall switches and iPad/iPhone.

Yotopia Yoga Studio

This entrance feature wall and reception counter for Yotopia yoga studio were designed to give the feeling of movement and positive energy as you enter the premises, preparing you for calm as you get ready for your practice. Using lighting and a repeating waveform we created a simple structure that had presence and volume but in a way that was sympathetic to the size of the space. The complimenting counter flows seamlessly into the wall and storage unit/shoe removing bench.
