Magnetite Sculptures by Ben Rousseau, Created with expert guidance from Ice Hotel architect Ake Larsson.

Ben was invited to be part of the Magnetite sculpture workshop to learn about the material and create a “Heavy Art” Piece for the Grounds of Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi, arctic Sweden. Using a mix of Magnetite supplied by the local Iron Ore mine Ben mixed over 4 tonnes of material to create the first two parts of the sculpture during a 2 week stay. The other two parts are to be completed in June 2012.

The project is titled “Aurora Guide ” as it is representative of the four points of a compass with the largest pointing northwards to mark the usual sighting location in the sky of the Aurora Borealis which is often seen at the site and surrounding area of Ice Hotel.
