Ben Rousseau and Stuart Farrelly have just returned from representing Great Britain at the World Fire Sculpting Competition in Riga, Latvia. Team GB worked tirelessly in temperatures as low as -8 for three long days in the shadow of the Vanšu Bridge on Ķīpsala beach of the Daugava River. Their efforts looked as though they would be rewarded when their sculpture entitled “The Invisible Force Field” was finally set ablaze, and their complicated design, incorporating a central spinning cube, seemed on a course to victory. However, a mere 15 seconds into the spectacle disaster struck, when the reinforced steel cable supporting the rotating core succumbed to the intense heat that enveloped it. Unfortunately 2014 wasn’t to be our year, and the event was eventually won by the Russian team, who designed an impressive dancing horse. Below is a video of our entire project from start to finish, enjoy!
